"PORTA ROMANA" - Tourist apartments

Porta Romana buliding is located in the historic center of Sarzana, small town located in Ligurian territory, in the lower part of the Val di magra, where the Sstatale 63 della Cisa meets with Aurelia motorway.
The city is located in the heart of the Lunigiana, has ancient origins that date to back to first millennium and preserve two castles, where some important cultural and artistic events take place, Fortezza Firmafede, of Pisan origin, and Fortezza di Sarzanello, ancient Episcopal residence.

Today the ancient sixteenth-cantury walled-up s is almost intact, with walls and four keeps. The historical center is developed along Via Bertoloni and Via Mazzini, between Porta Parma and Porta Romana. On these streets appear many buildings and churches, as Palazzo Remedi, Palazzo Podestà Lucciardi, Palazzo Municipale, Chiesa di Sant’Andrea, the most ancient sacred building of the city, Palazzo Vescovile, Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, Teatro degli Impavidi and many works in wrought iron, characteristic of the city.
In neighbourhood of the center, it’s possible to visit the village of Falcinello and to arrive up to the sea in Marinella di Sarzana or to visit archaeological excavations of Luni, in the close village of Ortonovo.

B&B Porta Romana, located in a 9th century building, recently restored, situated at about 150 mt from Porta Romana, in a enviable position and optimal for visiting the historical center and for enjoying attractions offered from the city of Sarzana,  from the historical and artistic beauties, to numerous events and shows, like as Festival della Mente and the Mostra dell’Antiquariato.

It’s also possibile to taste typical foods of the Sarzana’s gastronomy, derived the Ligurian and Lunigiana’s cooking, like the farinata, focacce and testaroli, ravioli, the "tagiarin", the lasagna and small potatoes dumplings, the stockfish, the basil sauce, the scarpazza (vegetables cake), the sgabei, leavened, fried and salt paste, the rice cake or torta scema, the panizza, the focaccia with pork sausage, dried salted cod pancakes, the castagnaccio.

Sarzana is also famous for a typical sweet food, the Spongata, a cake made of a sheet of pasta dough and stuffed of fruit and jam. More traditional sweets are sweet focaccia, the buccellato, sweet rice cake and the royalel paste.
